This tennis drill is a great and fun way to improve a players ball feel, touch and volleys.
This drill (or game) is played only in the mini court. The only one that must start behind the service line is the one who starts the point. There are two ways to do the serve. The way I always knew it was to start it with a table tennis alike serve (like illustrated in the drill), or just feed it normally to the other side.
In this drill, you’re not allowed to hit powerful shots, it is all about ball feel and touches.
After the serve the teams must pass the ball between each other before volleying the ball to the other side, always on the 3rd touch (not more and not less).
The ball is allowed to touch bounce once, but only before the first touch of a team, meaning that if the ball bounces after the first touch, the point is lost.
If the players are beginners and/or do not have enough ball feel yet they may allow the ball bounce once after every touch.
